2022 Racial Justice Listening Sessions: what we heard from communities

Community members and staff gather for one of the Racial Justice Listening sessions in May of 2022.

The Racial Justice Fund Advisory Council has hosted a series of listening sessions and one-to-one conversations with communities of color to learn which community challenges are most pressing, what outcomes they hope to see from this fund, and what organizations and initiatives should be considered for funding.

Some of the funding ideas we’ve heard from outreach so far include:

  • Increasing down payment assistance for people of color to purchase homes

  • Providing spaces for collaboration and connection between leaders of color to coordinate service efforts

  • Assistance for individuals navigating the justice system

  • Funding culturally-specific organizations and services, including interpretation and translation services

  • Addressing unmet needs by filling gaps between what services provide and what folks still need, and more

Given this feedback, priority was given to grant proposals addressing some of these identified needs.

It’s going to take dollars to actually invest in a movement, to actually make the progress that we need.
